Carson City arrests: Woman jailed after allegedly using pepper spray on roommate

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Sunday for suspicion of domestic battery after allegedly spraying her roommate with pepper spray in the face during an argument, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 1200 block of East Fifth Street. Arriving deputies learned two female roommates were arguing when the 25-year-old suspect grabbed her pepper spray that was on her keys and used it on the victim. The pepper spray was sprayed in a way that went under the victim’s glasses and into the eyes.

The suspect said she peppered sprayed her roommate because her roommate grabbed her. She said she put her hand in her roommate’s face to flip her off and that the victim swatted the suspect’s hand, the arrest report states. She was arrested at 2:57 a.m. Bail: $3,137.

In other bookings:
— A 41-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 10:55 p.m. in the area of Third and Division streets for suspicion of DUI and disobedience of a traffic control device. According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area for a traffic accident. A deputy met with the driver at fault who had been treated at the scene and refused transport to the hospital.

The deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the woman’s breath. The officer asked the woman if she had been drinking. The woman said she had two glasses of wine. The officer asked if she would participate in field sobriety tests.

When he asked, the woman’s demeanor changed and she grabbed her side and began complaining of pain. The deputy asked if she had sustained any head injury in the accident and the woman said she didn’t.

The deputy called for paramedics asked if she would provide a preliminary breath test which she consented but would not do it correctly to provide a sufficient sample. She blew a partial of .159, the arrest report states. The woman was taken to the hospital and when she was medically cleared was arrested for suspicion of DUI and a stop sign violation. Bail: $1,224.

— Two men, ages 24 and 23, were arrested Sunday, 2:38 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for suspicion of petit larceny after attempting to steal several items from Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, loss prevention observed two men in the sporting goods section select packages of freeze-dried ice cream. The pair walked over to the automotive section, opened the ice cream and ate them, leaving the packages on the shelf and walking away.

The men then returned to the sporting goods section and selected a package of CO2 cartridges. They opened the packages and concealed them as well as a folding Razor knife multi-tool. They then went to the electric section, selected cell phone cases and placed them in jacket pockets. They then went to the infant department and placed the cell phone items in their pants. The 24-year-old was booked for violation of bail conditions, and petit larceny. Bail: $3,352. The 23-year-old was booked for suspicion of petit larceny. Bail: $352.

— A 42-year-old Carson City woman was booked into jail Sunday, 1:32 p.m. for a misdemeanor domestic battery warrant issued Nov. 9 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 39-year-old man was arrested Sunday, 10:38 a.m. at a William Street supermarket for misdemeanor suspicion of petit larceny and two counts probation violation. According to the arrest report, the loss prevention agent witness the suspect enter the store, select a bottle of tequila and exited the liquor aisle carrying the bottle of tequila.

The suspect was then observed going to the laundry care area and concealed the bottle into his front pants pocket. The man then passed through all points of sale and exited the store. He was stopped by the loss prevention agent. The man admitted to stealing the bottle. A deputy learned the man is on Alternative Sentencing with a “no alcohol” clause and an “obey all laws” cause. He was arrested. Bail: $6,352.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Sunday, 8:57 a.m. for a misdemeanor warrant alleging threatening phone calls. The warrant was issued Nov. 10, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

A brushfire that occurred in Dayton Friday evening is currently in the mop up phase.

The fire which was reported just south east of Highway 50 is estimated to have burned around two to three acres and no structures were in danger.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday night to a small brush fire behind Meeks Lumber in north Carson City.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. There will be aircrafts, helicopters, law enforcement vehicles, mounted horses, fire engines, giveaways, music, games and more.

A heatwave with the potential to shatter records will settle over Carson City and surrounding counties for the remainder of the week and into next week, bringing prolonged, scorching temperatures above 100 degrees and causing potential strains to the power grid, according to the National Weather Service.

I paused my stride on the sandy slope. Without the monotonous thumping of my boots on the trail, it was spectacularly quiet. There was no babbling stream, airplane rumbling overhead or distant voices of other hikers. For a few moments, not even a bird chirped.
