Carson City weekend weather: Sunny skies ahead following season's first big storm
A weather system that gave the Carson City region a good rain soaking and brought feet of snow to the Sierra has ended with sunny skies in the forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will remain within a few degrees of average for valleys over the weekend with the first half of the week looking to be more active again with fast moving systems Monday and possibly Wednesday, according to the weather service.
Both weather systems are subtropical with snow at the highest elevations. The Monday system may bring in a modest amount of rain to western Nevada, according to the weather service.
If you are traveling over the Sierra for the Thanksgiving holiday, snow levels will be near 8,000 feet early Monday and are expected to rise above 9,000 feet later in the day. The second storm for Wednesday and Wednesday night is likely to be even warmer, with snow levels around 10,000 feet, according to the weather service.
Heading into Thanksgiving Day and weekend the forecast favors lowered precipitation chances. For now at least, temperatures look to be quite warm on Thursday with highs pushing well into the 60s for lower elevations, then easing back to the 50s by next weekend.
The forecast this weekend for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas calls for mostly sunny skies Friday through Sunday, with daytime highs in the upper 40s Friday, lower 50s on Saturday and upper 50s Sunday with a chance for showers Sunday night and Monday morning.
