Two Carson City jail inmates booked for felony battery following fight
Two Carson City jail inmates were booked Wednesday for felony charges of battery by a prisoner after video showed the men fighting, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Jesus Manuel Rojas, 20, of Carson City and Daniel Joseph Schwab, 40, of South Lake Tahoe were booked at 7 a.m.
According to the arrest report, inmate Schwab told a deputy he had slipped in the shower and sprained his foot. While speaking with the inmate, the deputy observed the man had bruising under his right eye.
The deputy reviewed surveillance that showed Schwab and Rojas began fighting, throwing punchings and making contact with each other with their fists. At one point on the video it showed Schwab falling to the ground in the back room of the Trustee Pod, the arrest report states.
The deputy informed Schwab that he had reviewed video and showed him not slipping in the shower. The deputy asked Schwab if he wanted to explain what happened. He was read his Miranda warning and agreed to speak. He stated he told Rojas to get out of the room. Rojas told Schwab “make me” and then they started fighting, the report states.
After speaking with Schwab, the deputy read the Miranda warning to Rojas and asked if he wanted to speak. Rojas replied no. Both were arrested for battery by a prisoner without use of weapons. Bail: $20,000 each.
