Incline Village firefighters in Carson City for training knock down brush fire near Highway 50
Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday afternoon to a brush fire near Highway 50 east in the 3900 block. However, a Lake Tahoe fire truck from Incline Village, that happened to be in the area for training, was able to knock it down without major spread.
Multiple 911 calls were made to dispatch beginning at 12:50 p.m. regarding a possible blown transformer that may have started the fire. Fire engines quickly responded.
Structures were reportedly threatened, however, an Incline Village fire crew from North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, that was near the scene at the time for training near Pick-n-Pull, saw the smoke and flames near the area of Highway 50 East and Edmonds and knocked down the fire within minutes, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jason Danen.
The fire was around 50 feet by 50 feet in size, said Danen.
Traffic is being diverted away from the area and a portion of the road was closed off to motorists. The cause is under investigation.
