Athletes in weekend pickle at Carson City's MAC
A three-day pickleball tournament, hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, has taken over the Multipurpose Athletic Center (MAC) in Carson City over this Veterans Day weekend.
The tournament started at 9 a.m. Friday and picked up again Saturday morning. It concludes Sunday.
The sport of pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It can be played either indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with an altered tennis net. Players use a paddle to hit a plastic ball over the net in an effort to score points.
At the MAC this weekend, the massive hardwood surface at the center of the facility was divided up into several individual competition-sized pickleball courts.
Pickleball is played every day at the MAC at 9 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to come, watch and learn about the sport.
Call the MAC at (775) 887-2290 or stop by in person at 1860 Russell Way in Carson CIty to register for this weekend's tournament, which wraps up on Sunday.
