Wheatstone Bridge brings Americana, folk and Celtic to Brewery Arts Center this Saturday
Wheatstone Bridge will brings its unique stylings of Americana, folk and Celtic to Carson City this Saturday, Nov. 11 with a performance at the Brewery Arts Center.
Wheatstone Bridge is a melody-driven Americana/folk group from Reno, Nev. who bring their love of beautiful melodies to life with clever, meaningful, original songs. The music is deeply rooted in the Americana, Progressive Folk, and Celtic traditions, while the lyrics challenge an inauthentic world and soar to a celebration of consciousness and thought.
This one-night-only engagement is presented as part of the Celtic Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center, 449, W. King St., in Carson City, Nevada on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 7:00 PM. Ticket prices are $12 for BAC Members, $15 in advance, and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased through the BreweryArts.org website or by calling the Brewery Arts Center Box Office at 775-883-1976.
Northern Nevada favorites, Wheatstone Bridge, is the newest incarnation of a 24-year collaboration between Stephen A. Barron and Jill Marlene.
Barron, whose influences range from Ween to John Denver, plays the acoustic guitar and writes the music together with Marlene.
Marlene, the lyricist and lead vocalist, is joyfully influenced by the Celtic tradition of songs that are both universal yet deeply personal. A familiar face in the Northern Nevada Arts and Music scene, Marlene is a singer, songwriter, actor, producer, director, and author, often all at the same time.
Rounding out Wheatstone Bridge is accomplished guitarist and singer, Gabe Hilton, on bass, and the newest member, Darren Ripley, who plays the beloved banjo.
In a recent interview, Marlene exclaimed, “We are so excited about coming down to Carson City! It’s going to be so much fun — for us and for the audience.” When asked about the band’s name, she stated, “Officially, we named it after a Victorian-era electrical circuit. We love the name, because we really feel that the name reflects our music. It evokes Victorian, Steam-Age sensibilities, with a strong Celtic and American folk feel. It’s really a musical experience that is timeless.”
Together, the four members of Wheatstone bridge make sounds that can open hearts. The melodies stay with you, telling stories of the human spirit and celebrating our capacity to know ourselves and to heal what ails us.
Wheatstone Bridge’s songs could be called, “Secular Spirituals.” With shared influences including, the Indigo Girls, America, Joni Mitchell, the Decemberists, Dylan, the Dixie Chicks, Peter, Paul and Mary, and John Denver, Wheatstone Bridge commits to an authentic musical message rooted solidly in Celtic, Folk, and Old-Timey, rich in textures and beautiful melodies.
