Carson City area weather: Freezing overnight temperatures, gusty winds this week
While this weekend's expected storm didn't produce precipitation here in Carson City but carried with it some snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra, the National Weather Service says expect daytime breezy conditions and night time cold temperatures for the first part of the week.
A very windy Wednesday appears to be in store for western Nevada. Preliminary wind gusts between 40 to 50 mph are possible in the lower elevations with much stronger wind gusts around 100 mph for the higher terrain. The fall storm system may bring some valley and rain and mountain snow with it.
Meanwhile, clearing skies Monday night will likely lead to hard freezes area-wide. Outdoor pets may need to be brought indoors as temperatures dip into the mid 20s for urban centers of western Nevada and upper teens/low 20s in more rural locations, according to the weather service. Vulnerable populations will also be susceptible to these low temperatures and may be caught unaware, according to the weather service.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime highs will be near 50 on Monday with night time lows in the low 20s. Tuesday will see daytime highs in the low 50s with night time lows in the upper 20s. Wednesday may reach a high temperature of 60 but by night there will be a slight chance of rain and snow showers that may last until Thursday morning.
