Man serving life prison sentence brought up on murder charges in Carson City court
A 61-year-old Northern Nevada Correctional Center inmate was booked Monday on multiple murder charges and made an appearance in Carson City Justice Court.
Robert Ryan Rowland was booked on felony charges of open murder, first degree murder, battery with a deadly weapon and two counts assault on a protected person by a prisoner.
He was booked in Carson City Justice Court and then returned to prison. Rowland is currently a life sentence at Northern Nevada Correctional Center.
The new charges were made in warrants issued August 30, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. The case is being prosecuted by the Nevada Attorney General's Office.
Details on the incident which brought about the charges were not immediately available.
Rowland was sentenced to life in prison without parole in January 2002 for the January 19, 1998 murder of a Nevada State Prison inmate, as was his co-conspirator, Tony Martin Smith.
