Carson City arrests: Man jailed for suspicion of fourth DUI
A 30-year-old man was arrested early Monday for suspicion of felony fourth DUI and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Deputies arrested Jorge Enrique Medina of Incline Village at 12:23 a.m. in the area of Cochise and Junction Drive. He was also booked for having an open container in his vehicle and resisting an officer.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling the area of South Carson Street and Snyder Avenue and observed a dark colored SUV parked on the far south end of Cochise Street near the I-580 Spooner Junction intersection. The vehicle was parked, running with its lights on and occupied by one person.
The deputy identified the vehicle as a black Mercedes and the sole driver was wearing a red sweatshirt and was facing the passenger side of the vehicle while sitting in the driver’s seat.
The officer approached the vehicle and asked the man what he was doing. The man’s eyes appeared bloodshot and watery. The vehicle’s engine was running and the gear shifter was engaged in the park position. The man looked away from the officer and began figeting with the windshield wiper module of the vehicle. The man appeared to be trying to put the vehicle in drive using the wiper module, the deputy states in the report.
The officer ordered the man numerous times to roll down the window. The man did not comply. The man eventually turned off the ignition to the vehicle and opened the doors as requested. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the man, who also slurred his words when talking.
The officer instructed the man to remove the keys from the ignition and give them to him. The man instead started the vehicle and placed it into drive. The officer quickly reached into the subject’s vehicle and forcefully removed him from the driver’s seat by pulling on his sweatshirt and left arm. While struggling with the man, the vehicle’s engine was turned off.
The deputy successfully removed the man from the vehicle and attempted to place him in wrist restraints. The man attempted to resist. After a brief struggle the officer was able to get the man cuffed, the arrest report states.
The officer observed a half full Steel Reserve sitting on the drive’s side floorboard and an additional empty can on the passenger side of the vehicle. While conducting a search of the man, the officer located a wallet in the back pocket of his pants with a Nevada driver’s license. He was placed in a patrol vehicle.
The man voluntarily and freely submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .200.
At 12:23 a.m. he was placed into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, open container and obstructing. The officer read the man the request for voluntary evidence. The man was verbally uncooperative and instead told the officer to take him home. He also said he would allow blood taken from his arms, the arrest report states.
While transporting the man he became verbally uncooperative and told the officer he would not allow blood to be taken. Upon arrival at jail he become physically uncooperative and was placed in a padded safety cell for his safety. At approximately 1:14 a.m. a judge granted a search warrant for a blood draw to obtain the man’s blood. Bail: $20,829.
