Illuminated, blinking, outrageously costumed riders tour Carson City on bikes
The 10th bi-annual Blinky Man bike crawl took place Friday night in Downtown Carson City. The Blinky Man event can be summarized as a costumed night-time bike ride with lights.
Participants rig up colorful lights on their bikes while decked out in outrageous costumes. Riding from stop to stop the moving mass of lights and smiles took advantage of Blinky Man drink specials served at participating bars and restaurants. Go here for the time-lapsed video.
Between stops the riders enjoyed the fall weather with a winding route through Mills Park on the way to The Fox. Then, a nice jaunt to view the Halloween decorations at the Governor's Mansion before making their way to Living The Good Life.
Kyle Horvath and Greg Pisarsky came up with the idea while attending Burning Man and thought they could bring the experience of riding from exhibit to exhibit at night on the desert playa to downtown Carson City.
“It’s a fun platform for people to get creative and have a great time with other creative people, riding bikes,” said Horvath.
Since the first Blinky Man, attendance has doubled to at least 100 riders. The bars and restaurants on the route include Jimmy G’s, The Tap Shack, Feisty Goat, The Fox, Living The Good Life and Battle Born Social. The Downtown Carson City Business Association also lended a hand by covering the costs of 100 commemorative pins designed by local artist Joseph Stanton.
The next Blinky Man ride will occur beginning of summer 2018.
