Carson City arrests: Man enters home, tells family they're 'sleeping' then punches mother

A 24-year-old man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of felony residential burglary and misdemeanor battery after a family discovered he was inside their home, and then allegedly punched the mother when she told him to wait for deputies to arrive, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Devin Paul Skelley was taken into custody at 7:46 a.m. following an investigation by sheriff's deputies. According to the report, deputies were called to a Douglas Drive address for a report of a suspicious subject inside a residence.
Deputies were alerted that a man was standing in the room of a girl, trying to open her closet door. The man was later identified as Skelley.
The girl, whose age was not provided in the report, asked the man who he was and he told her that she was "sleeping." The girl stated she yelled for her parents and when her family arrived, Skelley told them they were also sleeping.
They said the man appeared to be intoxicated and confused. The girl's mother advised that when she went to her daughter's room, the man attempted to leave. She told him he needed to wait for the police.
She said the man began repeatedly punching her in the shoulder with a closed fist. Carson City Fire Department paramedics informed CCSO deputies that the mother had swelling on her left shoulder, the arrest report states.
A CCSO deputy entered the residence and saw Skelley standing in the bedroom and appeared to be highly intoxicated. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man.
The officer asked him if he knew where he was and he appeared confused. He was detained for further questioning. He was read his Miranda rights and he acknowledge he understood them. He waived his rights and stated he knew he made a mistake and entered the wrong home, thinking it was his. He stated he lives on Douglas Drive.
The family advised the garage side door was open where the man may have entered. Deputies inspected the garage and observed several items were pushed away from the door, indicating the man had to push the door forcefully to open it, the report states.
Deputies also located a case containing a pool cue. Deputies conducted a follow-up investigation and learned the man had gone out to play pool the night before, the report states.
He was arrested and booked for suspicion of residential burglary and battery. Bail: $26,137.
In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a Jeanelle Drive address for domestic battery. Dispatch advised the victim had been battered and that she took the keys from his vehicle away from him after finding him intoxicated.
Deputies arrived and attempted to make contact with the man at his apartment. After several minutes knocking, the man came to the window and refused to come outside or allow deputies inside, the report states.
Deputies were able to ask him about the incident between himself and the victim. The man denied having a physical altercation, the report states.
Over the course of the investigation, deputies learned the victim was allegedly shoved from behind when she entered the bathroom after taking the man's keys. She advised she was shoved into a cabinet where she hit her forehead. Friends were present during the incident and confirmed the woman's statement. Deputies observed a bump on the victim's forehead where she struck the cabinet, according to the report.
The suspect told deputies that he was going to leave that that the woman took his keys to prevent him from driving, at which time he attempted to get his keys back. He stated that he "pushed" himself away to separate himself from her, confirming he did place his hands on the victim.
Based on witness accounts of the man shoving the woman into a cabinet from behind and the man's admittance of pushing her, the man was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
— A 38-year-old Carson City man, Jose Gonzalez, was arrested Friday in the 500 block of North Carson Street for suspicion of felony providing false information to avoid prosecution, possession of a controlled substance, and four misdemeanor offenses: possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing, resisting a public officer without violence and a failure to appear warrant. Bail: $20,000.
— A 39-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued Oct. 10, 2023 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
