Carson City arrests: Man in custody for suspected second DUI, hit and run
A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of multiple misdemeanor offenses including a second DUI and hit and run, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of Emerson Drive and Arrowhead Road in regards to a reckless driver. The reporting party told Carson City dispatch an unregistered silver sedan was driving recklessly, couldn't maintain its lane of travel and nearly crashed into other vehicles in the area.
An additional reporting party told dispatch the vehicle was parked at an auto parts store in the 1700 block of North Carson Street and had crashed into a large metal pole and a small fence at the business and then left. Carson City dispatch also said they received numerous additional calls reporting the silver sedan driving recklessly, reaching speeds of 50 mph and nearly crashing into other vehicles, the report states.
One of the reporting parties was a volunteer unit with the sheriff's office and was maintaining a visual of the driver. The volunteer unit and additional reporting parties claimed they saw the sedan swerving and failing to maintain a lane of travel. All witnesses agreed to complete statements.
The vehicle was then reportedly traveling south on Roop from College Parkway. At 10:13 a.m. a deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at Stewart and David streets. The vehicle matched the description and had fresh damage on the front bumper and headlight, the report states.
A deputy made contact with the driver, who used an Idaho ID card. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the man's person. He appeared lethargic and his head kept falling forward, indicating he was having trouble staying awake. He denied consuming alcoholic beverages and said he would participate in standardized field sobriety tests.
The deputy had to assist numerous times in the tests to prevent him from falling as he showed multiple signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .360 and was arrested. He was taken to the hospital to be medically evaluated. He refused an evidentiary blood test. A search warrant was applied for and granted for a blood draw and he was transported to jail.
He faces charges of second DUI, hit and run, stoping and parking in a prohibited place, failure to maintain a lane, driving in an unregistered vehicle, not having a valid driver's license in possession and department of alternative sentencing violation. Listed total bail amount: $4,102.
