Carson City area road report for week of Oct. 11-17

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 11-17, 2021. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— Curry Street between 5th Street and Musser Street will be closed in the northbound direction, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for road construction. Pedestrian closures and detours will also be in place. Please plan accordingly.

— Kings Canyon Road west of Longview Way remains closed 7 days a week, all day, for roadway reconstruction. Only local residential access will be provided. The Waterfall Trailhead and parking area is closed. There is no access or parking for the trails. Please do not come up Kings Canyon unless you live in the area.

Lane restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— Clearview Drive between Silver Sage Drive and Oak Street will be reduced to one lane with flaggers, Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm for roadway reconstruction. Please use caution and expect delays.

— Colorado Street between Carson Street and Saliman Road will be reduced to one lane, Thursday and Friday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for underground utility repair. Please use caution and expect delays.

— Long Street between Roop Street and Rand Street will be reduced to one lane with flaggers, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Long Street at Rand Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider and alternate route.

— Marian Avenue at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Molly Street at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— Silver Sage Drive between Snyder Avenue and Clearview Drive will be reduced to one lane, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm for road repair. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

— State Street at Long Street will be flagger controlled, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm for roadway reconstruction. Please expect delays and consider an alternate route.

Unsettled weather is expected for the Carson City area and Lake Tahoe region through the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, with widespread breezy to windy conditions through Saturday and temperatures cooling to below normal, according to the National Weather Service.

Beginning Friday, May 27, Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe will open at 7 a.m. to help ease traffic congestion on Highway 28. Visitors are advised to arrive at or after opening time. There is limited space to wait for the park to open. Vehicles parked on the shoulder or blocking the highway may receive a citation.

UPDATE 4:18PM: According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, there was an electrical short that burned a small section of insulation on the fire truck, which is now at the fleet division where they are investigating the cause of the short. Damage appears to be very minor.
