Weather system to bring rain to Carson City, snow in the Sierra by Wednesday
The fall weather cool-down continues this week with another system moving into the Carson City region by Wednesday. The system will drop temperatures by 15 to 20 degrees with rain in Carson City and snow in the forecast for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.
An area of low pressure will bring rain, snow and a significant cool down for Wednesday with high temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below normal. Tuesday will bring mostly cloudy skies to Carson City.
There are chances for rain and snow throughout northeast California, the Sierra, and northwest Nevada, but the best chances will be south of Highway 50. In Carson City there's a 40 percent chance of rain on Wednesday with showers overnight, according to the weather service.
Light snow accumulations of a few inches are possible in the Sierra and throughout Mono county, though with warm road temperatures during the day, snow may not begin to stick until after sunset on Wednesday with roads possibly remaining slick through Thursday morning.
Travel impacts are possible on Sonora Pass, Monitor Pass, Carson Pass, Ebbetts Pass, Tioga Pass and on Highway 395 through much of Mono County.
