Coffee with a Cop becomes lattes served by officers at Carson City Starbucks
Patrons at the E. William Street Starbucks in Carson City were treated to the unexpected Wednesday morning when they came in for their daily lattes and were greeted by the smiling faces of members of law enforcement behind the counter in honor of national Coffee with a Cop day.
Sheriff Ken Furlong took orders at the register, while several deputies ran drinks, poured lattes, and took payment at the drive through window, under the supervision of the Starbucks baristas.
Store manager Ivan Rizo-Pineda asked the Carson City Sheriff’s Office if his store could host the event this year. This is the third year the event has been held nationally, and the second year Carson City has participated.
“I wanted to take an opportunity for the Carson City Sheriff’s Office to come in and sit down with the community,” said Rizo-Pineda. “I think it’s important since we’re such a small community to get to know our law enforcement.”
There was a table set up for the event, but members of law enforcement chose instead to mingle with customers and come face to face with the community from behind the coffee bar and at the drive-thru window.
“It was a great time,” said Sheriff Furlong. “Especially being behind the bar, you can engage more with people than by just sitting at a table."
