Carson City man jailed on felony heroin possession charge
A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a felony drug charge Wednesday in the area of Plaza and Sophia streets after deputies with the Special Enforcement Team found a small amount of heroin inside a vehicle, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Timothy Allen Scott Newman was arrested at 5:11 p.m., following a consensual search of a vehicle where a piece of tinfoil with about .1 gram of heroin was found underneath the front passenger seat, according to the arrest report. A 25-year-old man was also arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies located a “tooter” straw, used to inhale narcotics, inside his pocket.
SET officers were patrolling the area and saw two men in a vehicle who appeared dazed and not moving. As a deputy attempted to make consensual contact with the men, they got out of the car and began walking. The officer asked for their identification in which they came back as not having valid licenses. The men agreed to pat-down searches and a search of the vehicle, the arrest report states.
Newman was asked about the heroin found underneath the passenger seat of the vehicle. He said it was his, verbally and nodded affirmatively when asked about it, the arrest report states. Bail for Newman: $2,500. Bail for the 25-year-old found with the paraphernalia: $1,137.
