Voters encouraged to register in national campaign
The Carson City Library is working with the Carson City Clerk-Recorders Office to help people register to vote as part of National Register to Vote Day on Tuesday.
“We feel that civic engagement is important for our community and for our library patrons,” said Sena Loyd, director of the Carson City Library. “We wanted to provide a safe location where our patrons can register to vote and become civically engaged.”
While the deadlines aren’t looming, Deputy Chief Clerk Aubrey Rowlatt said the day is a reminder to people to verify their registration or to register.
“It’s just an awareness day,” Rowlatt said. “We will be open for business as usual that day.”
Potential voters can go to the Carson City Library, located at 900 North Roop Street, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to register. Forms will be available at the information desk.
They should bring a valid form of Nevada identification or their Social Security number.
The Elections Department in the Clerk-Recorders Office, located at 885 East Musser Street, Suite 1025, will be open during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“People can call to verify they are registered or come in to register,” Rowlatt said.
Contact the Elections Department at (775) 887-2087 or email to elections@carson.org.
Registration is also available online at www.registertovotenv.gov.
According to the National Register to Vote website, “Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote. National Voter Registration Day seeks to create broad awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise.”
The next Primary Election will be June 12 with the General Election on Nov. 6. The library will continue to make voter registration forms available.
