Carter Springs Fire in Douglas County grows to 3,000 acres, 30 percent contained
The Carter Springs Fire in Douglas County is estimated to have grown to approx 3,000 acres. A perimeter has been established, and the fire is now burning unburned fuels within the perimeter, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The fire is estimated to be 30 percent contained; with full containment expected by Sept. 25.
Highway 395 has reopened with no controls in both directions. Motorists are requested to slow down while traveling through the area, and watch for emergency vehicles accessing the area.
Firefighting efforts continue today with water drops via helicopter, and hand crews continuing to improve the perimeter lines around the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey.
