Carson City arrest log: Man jailed for alleged felony domestic battery with strangulation
A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday for felony suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation and misdemeanor obstructing and resisting an officer, a sheriff’s deputy said.
Rico Eugene Wiggins was taken into custody at 3:07 a.m. in the area of Park and North Carson streets following a brief foot pursuit.
According to the arrest report, deputies investigated the matter after the victim checked into a rehabilitation center where medical staff advised injuries on the victim consistent with being battered. The victim wanted a protection order served on the suspect, who also stated at the rehabilitation center that he wanted to self-admit.
Deputies learned there were physical altercations on Sept. 12 and Sept. 17, in which the suspect allegedly choked the victim and made threats to kill her, saying he would snap her neck before cops could make it through the door, the arrest report states. Officers observed discoloration on the left side of the victim’s neck and other injuries. The victim advised she was concerned for herself and her son’s safety.
The suspect was located near a motel in the 1300 block of North Carson Street. The investigating deputy attempted to make contact with the man, who began walking away from him, and then running from the officer before he lost his footing and tripped, the arrest report states.
He was taken into custody and read his Miranda rights where he told the deputy, “I know my rights” and stated he was invoking his rights and did not wish to speak.
The man was served an active protection order restricting him having contact with the victim. The matter has been turned over to the district attorney’s office. Bail: $15,412.
