Fire rips through Kit Kat Ranch brothel in Mound House

UPDATE: The fire has been extinguished and the cause is under investigation.

A large fire ripped through the Kit Kat Ranch brothel in Mound House on Thursday evening. According to Lyon County Dispatch, as of 7:30 p.m. the fire was active with crews working to extinguish the flames.

No other information was available from dispatch and messages have been left with Central Lyon Fire.

According to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which monitors regional fires, reports are that all occupants are accounted for and safe. Multiple fire agencies responded to the fire in Mound House off of Highway 50 East, including Carson City Fire Department, which was called to the fire for mutual aid per Central Lyon Fire.

No extension into wildland has been reported.

It is unknown at this time when the fire started. Carson City Fire Department mutual aid was requested at 6:23 p.m., according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini.

Carson Now has left messages for the Central Lyon County fire chief and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office. We will update as more information becomes available.

People are advised to stay out of the area.

Carson City resident Brett Fisher took these photos of the rare celestial visitor Comet A3, also known as C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, that arrived this week over the skies across Nevada and throughout the world.

A gas leak was repaired Thursday and there is not an active leak, according to a Southwest Gas spokesman. It is unknown at this time when the portion of backcountry trail will reopen. We will update when it does.

A portion of the Spooner Lake State Park backcountry is closed until further notice due to an ongoing gas leak, according to Nevada State Parks in a social media post Monday.
