Dayton Valley Days to feature Show and Shine, food and crafts vendors and live music
The 34th annual Dayton Valley Days will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17 in Old Town Dayton, and will feature gold panning, a Show and Shine, silent auction and a pet parade.
The event on Pike Street in downtown Dayton starts at 8:30 a.m. each day, and is sponsored by the Dayton Chamber of Commerce.
A food court and more seating has been added to this year’s event. Vendors will offer pizza, ice cream, and other treats. A food truck, hosted by the Dayton High School Boosters, will also sell food items.
“For our small town, this annual celebration represents a cherished tradition that brings us together,” said Brittnee Somers, event chairperson. Dayton Valley Days helps people connect and create memories along with fostering a sense of pride in the community, she said.
A pancake breakfast with eggs, sausage and pancakes will be held outside the community center each day from 7:30 to 10 a.m. The breakfast is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. It is sponsored by the Dayton Kiwanis Club, and will feature coffee from Larry’s Gourmet Coffee.
The Show and Shine returns on Main Street this year Saturday at 9 a.m. with winners from various categories announced at 1 p.m.
This year’s street festival will also include a cornhole tournament Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the tournament will be held on Tyler Street.
Live music featuring country musician Greg Austin will be performed Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and Jacked-Up Lake Tahoe will offer classic rock tunes on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Participants in the 2nd annual Sutro Tunnel Treasure Hunt can pick up a word search at the Dayton Chamber booth and search for clues at booths throughout the event. A smart tv will be awarded to an adult, and a children’s prize will also be given out at the drawing on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The treasure hunt will be accompanied by other history-themed activities, such as tours of the Dayton Museum, and a visit from the Silent Riders, a costumed, living history group which is a popular Virginia City tourist attraction.
There will be plenty of activities for children in the kids zone, including a rock climbing wall, provided by Calvary Baptist Church, Dayton. The Boys and Girls Club of Mason Valley will have a bounce house.
Non-profit groups at the festival will include the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, which will have an ambulance on display, and the Dayton Valley Lions Club, which will offer vision screening for children.
More than 100 vendors will be selling items such as wooden flags and plaques, crocheted beanies, home décor, and custom printed hats and t-shirts, at the two-day event.
