Nevada Department of Emergency Management building reopened after brief lockdown
The Nevada Department of Emergency Management building on Fairview Drive in Carson City was on lock down from 11:20 to 11:45 a.m., Thursday after a landscaping crew informed onsite officials that a man with a hooded sweatshirt jumped the security fence earlier in the morning, Nevada Guard spokesman Dennis Fournier said. No such person was found.
The Nevada Guard learned about the alleged breach in security at around 11 a.m., when the landscaping crew said that at around 7:30 a.m. they observed someone at the facility jump the fence. It had been several hours from the time of the alleged incident to the time the crew reported it, Fournier said.
When they were informed, they went into a security lockdown per procedure. The Joint Operations Center conducted an accountability sweep and once it was determined no one was in the perimeter the lockdown was lifted.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office wasn't notified of the incident, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. Fournier said the security sweep was conducted by Nevada Guard staff at the Joint Operations Center.
