Law enforcement to hold DUI checkpoint Friday in Carson City
CARSON CITY — One of the deadliest and most often committed of crimes is impaired driving. It has become a serious safety epidemic in our state. Impaired drivers have consistently been the most common cause of motor vehicle crashes resulting in injuries and deaths in Nevada.
There is someone injured in a car crash every two minutes, and someone killed every 53 minutes in the United States involving an impaired driver. This is a preventable crime, and lives saved by following some simple steps.
Law enforcement officers statewide will be working to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has conducted extra patrol beginning August 25 and running through Sept. 10, to boost enforcement efforts and keep impaired drivers and riders of the streets.
The Carson City Sheriff’s will be Joining Forces with surrounding agencies on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 between 5 p.m. and midnight. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Carson City. Please do not drink and drive and always get a designated driver.
Increasing law enforcement presence during these weeks supports the overall state goal of reaching Zero Fatalities. Carson City residents can help us reach that goal by following these safety guidelines:
— Designate a sober driver before drinking.
— Use a taxi, call a sober friend, family member or use public transportation.
— Call 911 if a suspected drunk driver is on the road.
— Take the keys or assist in making other arrangements for someone who is about to drive impaired.
— Call law enforcement, it is better for the impaired driver to be arrested than involved in a crash.
