Teen driving on revoked license for DUI crashes into tree, hydrant
An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 2:40 p.m. in the area of North Curry and Sophia Drive on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a traffic accident where a 1996 Honda Accord had crashed into a fire hydrant and tree. The moderately damaged Honda, which had its airbags deployed, came to rest on a curb at the corner of the intersection.
The teen identified himself and advised he was driving the Honda and that it was his mother’s car. A check with dispatch showed his license to be revoked for DUI approximately a month ago, the arrest report states.
The man explained that he got a front flat tire which made his lose control and crashed into the tree. When speaking with the teen, officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and had an odor of alcohol coming from him.
The officer asked if he had been drinking and the teen said he had not. The officer asked if he had taken any drugs and said he had not but admitted he prefers to smoke marijuana. The officer asked if the teen would submit to field sobriety tests and he agreed, showing two signs of impairment with the walk and turn test. He completed the one leg stand test and showed no signs of impairment, the arrest report states.
He agreed to submit to a preliminary breath test which showed a .030 BAC, the arrest report states. Officers learned the other DUI arrest was also a traffic accident. He also agreed to submit to a blood test. Bail: $2,274.
In other arrests:
— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 9:40 a.m. in the 1000 block of Fleetwood Avenue on misdemeanor warrant charges of disorderly conduct and malicious destruction of property. The warrants were issued out of Carson City Justice court on August 29, 2014. Bail: $2,000.
— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 1:35 p.m. in the 300 block of 8th Street on two warrants for violation of a temporary restraining order for protection of domestic violence. The warrants were issued Sept. 2, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,000.
Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
