Carson City weather: Continued warm with chance of thunderstorms this week
High pressure will continue to provide unseasonably hot temperatures through Tuesday with areas of wildfire smoke and haze and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
While Reno will be hovering around the century mark on Monday, the forecast highs for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas are in the low to mid-90s with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday and a 40 percent chance by Wednesday night.
Moisture will increase each day through midweek with showers and thunderstorms spreading north across the Sierra and then into western Nevada Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be drier and not as hot for late week, with highs in the mid 80s Thursday and Friday for the Carson City region.
A drier southwest flow will develop ahead of an east Pacific trough on Thursday. We maintained a slight chance of thunderstorms south and east of Reno-Tahoe but some models dry things out completely. As the trough moves inland Thursday night-Friday morning, there could be a few showers over far northwest Nevada and northeast California.
Otherwise it will be dry going into Friday with temperatures moderating back toward seasonal levels although still slightly above. Typical afternoon zephyr breezes can be expected both Thursday and Friday with gusts 25-30 mph.
