Carson City area weather for Labor Day weekend calls for breezy, cool conditions
While fall doesn’t officially start until Sept. 23, weather around Carson City and the Sierra will take a noticeable turn to the cool side over the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
A cold front will move through the Sierra and western Nevada Friday bringing strong winds and much cooler temperatures for the weekend.
Southwest winds will increase Friday afternoon with gusts 35 to 45 mph. Strong winds will result in blowing dust, dangerous crosswinds for high profile vehicles and hazardous lake conditions.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Friday evening. The watch calls for gusty winds and low humidity for Western Nevada and South of I-80. A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible.
Meanwhile temperatures around Carson City this weekend will see sunny and breezy conditions with highs in the 60s to low 70s, Saturday and Sunday, warming some by Labor Day. Lows are expected in the mid 30s Friday through Saturday night, warming some going into Sunday. Any chance of precipitation will be well to the north of the Oregon border, according to the weather service.
In the Sierra there is a potential for freezing temperatures going into Labor Day weekend with impacts possible for gardeners, campers, outdoor pets, and Burning man “burners.” Coldest Sierra valleys will be in the mid to upper 20s with western Nevada valleys in the mid 30s. Forecaster confidence medium with exact temperatures, but if you plan on being outdoors this weekend overnight prepare for the potential of freezing conditions.
