GOED Director to Speak at Upcoming Rotary Club of Carson City Meeting
The Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), Tom Burns, will be the featured speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City Meeting. Burns will discuss the state’s current economic condition as well as potential opportunities for growth over the next several years. The meeting takes place Tuesday, September 5th at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend.
One topic of discussion will focus on developing a more sustainable and resilient economic environment in Nevada. “Nevada experiences the higher economic highs and lower economic lows than the national economy” Burns says. “However, Northern Nevada has been especially strong attracting manufacturers since the 2008 downturn, which has replaced lower paying jobs in the declining hospitality and leisure sector.”
Burns says that Nevada is also seeing a strong recovery from the pandemic, but says more help will soon be available to impacted local businesses. “The Nevada State Small Business Credit Initiatives program will expand access to capital for small businesses emerging from the pandemic, help increase business opportunities and entrepreneurship, and create high-quality jobs,” he said, adding “Nevada will eventually receive $112 million in funding from US Treasury for this effort.”
