Virginia City’s Labor Day weekend features Heritage Days and Battle Trains, parade and more
Virginia City’s Labor Day weekend has activities lined up for the whole family to enjoy. Events include the Heritage Days and Battle Trains re-enactment, a Comstock drilling contest, a Labor Day parade, museum attractions, tours and more.
Heritage Days and Battle Trains, Sept. 3-4 : Relive history in Virginia City as the Great Civil War Reenactors bring the past to life with the Heritage Days and Battle Trains. Hundreds of reenactors battle out great scenes on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad and even right in the middle of C Street as part of the Labor Day Parade.
Battle Trains take place at 11:20 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 and 11:20 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4. An evening champagne battle train departs Saturday evening at 7 p.m. For details visit VirginiaTruckee.com.
Comstock Rock Drilling Contest, Sept. 3, 12 – 3 p.m.: Watch as the miners of today compete in a rock drilling contest, an event dating back to the mining days on the Comstock.
Labor Day Parade, Sept. 5, 12 p.m.: Virginia City’s annual Labor Day Parade takes place at noon on C Street.
Museums, attractions and tours: Virginia City’s many museums, attractions and tours are open throughout the weekend. Venture deep into a mine, see artifacts of the town’s mining days, walk through a Victorian mansion and much more. Go to VisitVirginiaCityNV.com for more.
Live music: Virginia City’s various saloons offer live music throughout the weekend. Friday and Saturday nights, catch live music at the Red Dog Saloon or karaoke at the Ponderosa. Saturday, check out live music at the Virginia City Cigar & Bar. Sunday afternoon, Canvas Café hosts Canyon White from 1 – 4 p.m.
