Carson City man jailed for grand larceny, admits stealing refrigeration compressor
A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for felony suspicion of grand larceny after he admitted to stealing a commercial refrigeration compressor from a market Tuesday and returned the following day to allegedly steal more items, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Travis M. Fingerle was taken into custody at 2:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of East William Street.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the Hacienda Market and Grill on Tuesday for a report of a man who took the refrigeration component, valued at $3,748. The suspect put it in the trunk of his car and left the location. Management provided a video of the incident to investigating deputies.
On Wednesday Fingerle, along with a woman, returned to the market at around the same time, and attempted to steal more items. Once store management discovered the male had returned, several of the employees rushed to the rear of the store, detained the two and called dispatch, the report states.
The investigating sheriff’s deputy Mirandized the pair. Fingerle waived and decided to speak. He advised he had taken the compressor from one of the large refrigeration units located in the rear of the business. He advised he needed money and sold the more valued parts of the item to a metal scrapping business near Deer Run Road.
The woman also corroborated the statement. Fingerle was placed under arrest at which time he said parts of the stolen item were at his residence. Deputies responded to the residence and located the scrapped parts of the refrigeration unit outside the trailer on a sofa, the report states.
The woman voluntarily provided a written statement and was released from the scene because the investigation was unable to prove her knowledge and/or intentional involvement, the arrest report states. Bail for Fingerle: $25,000.
