Evacuation shelters fill in Carson City, evacuees told to go to Reno-Sparks Convention Center

Carson City once again was named the most bearded community in Nevada Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of the annual beard contest immediately following the Nevada Day Parade.

UPDATE: 5:15PM: The brush fire off Duck Hill Road was last reported at five acres, according to KRNV News 4 in Reno, before fire crews knocked down the flames and prevented the blaze from reaching any structures. Firefighters are now in mop-up stage.

The Nevada Day Parade is wrapping up its 80th annual celebration on Carson Street. But the festivities continue on Bob McFadden Plaza with the popular annual beard contest as well as the Battle For Nevada roller derby competition featuring Carson City's own Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.
