Capital City Hand Crew honored for significant achievements during fire season
Carson City Fire Department honored the Capital City Hand Crew on Thursday for their significant achievements during the fire season. Crew members were recognized for having provided outstanding support during peak fire season.
Crews are often dispatched to provide fire suppression support during wildland fire incidents. Some of the recent major fire incidents Capital City Hand Crew responded to are the Voltaire, both Rifle Range Fires, Landfill Fire, and the Duck Hill Fire. Crews primarily work to reduce fire hazardous fuels near and around homes located within the Wildland Urban Interface.
This year they managed to reduce fire danger by clearing hazardous vegetation on 54 acres located on the west side of Carson City with funding provided by a grant from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act. Those being honored include Brian Pittenger, Cody Tucker, Dustin Carlson, Jacob Herzing, Joseph Fellner, Marc Brizuela, Nic Fleischmann and Ryan Seamans.
“The crew was able to exceed the goals set forth at the beginning of the season by working hard, pushing their limits and coming together for the common good. I am proud of the accomplishments they achieved this season," said Rodd Rummel Carson City Fire Department Wildland Fuels Management Officer.
