Escaped albino python found in east Carson City neighborhood
A six-foot pet albino python snake was found Monday night by a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy in the area of Furgerson Ranch Road after it was seen slithering on a street and climbing up a tree.
A Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched at 7:56 p.m. to the East Carson City area regarding a large yellow and white albino snake crawling through the neighborhood. The reporting party said they saw it crawling on the ground and then climbing up a tree.
The deputy located the exotic pet in some bushes. He described it as a large snake with a body as round as a liter bottle of soda. Dispatch called for assistance from an animal control group that handles snakes.
At around the same time, the owner of the python, who lived nearby, took custody of it. It is unknown how the snake escaped.
“It was a large, well fed, well taken care of albino python,” said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Nate Brehm. “And when a snake is that big, yellow and white with red eyes, it was obviously scary to the person seeing it and so they reported it."
The owner of the snake was cooperative with officers and said they didn’t know how the python had escaped the residence, said Brehm.
“The owner realized it was missing right around the same time seeing the commotion outside with the cop cars. They retrieved it and were apologetic about it,” he said.
