Carson City area weather: Threat of thunderstorms prompt Red Flag fire warning
A chance of afternoon thunderstorms and low humidity has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag fire weather warning Wednesday for the Carson City region, western Nevada and eastern Sierra.
The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The weather service says isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening near and east of Highway 395. The peak time will be between 2 and 6 p.m.
The thunderstorms could bring outflow winds with gusts to 50 mph. Threats include dry lightning creating new fire starts, strong outflow winds, blowing dust, and localized flash flooding (burn areas and flash flood prone areas).
The affected areas include the Western Nevada Sierra Front, Northern Washoe County, Mineral and southern Lyon counties, as well as Surprise Valley, Calif., Mono and Eastern Alpine counties, and eastern Lassen County.
High temperatures today around the capital city region will be in the lower 90s.
