Carson City deputies arrest pair following domestic battery investigation
Two were arrested Monday for drug offenses and other alleged crimes following a domestic battery investigation, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
The suspects, a 46-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, were taken into custody at 10:11 a.m. Both were booked for gross misdemeanor possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. The man was booked for suspicion of domestic battery, while the woman was also booked for two misdemeanor warrants out of East Fork Justice Court and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the booking report, deputies were called to the area of East William Street after the woman called 911 dispatch where she could be heard yelling and screaming at a man.
Officers arrived in the area and spoke with a witness who said he saw the woman walk into a field and said he witnessed a similar incident involving the couple the prior day. Dispatch also advised there were multiple calls regarding the same circumstances on August 25 where a female would call 911 and not respond.
The female in the background from the earlier calls could be heard saying "you'd rather lay hands." In the call on Monday, the woman could be heard via a 911 call saying "lay your hands on me again" and "kick me in the ribs again."
The man was located and told deputies the woman, his girlfriend that he lives with, is just a loud talker and that there was no sort of argument, the report states. The man said he did get upset with the woman but denied that there was anything physical, the report states. He said the couple was in town because the woman's service dogs needed help and they were there to facilitate that.
Deputies spoke with the woman and learned she had two misdemeanor warrants in Douglas County. She stated there was an argument between the two and advised that whenever she leaves, the man becomes upset with her and that it is a reoccurring issue where there have been times when it becomes physical between them, according to the report.
A deputy asked if there was anything physical that day. She stated the man had kicked her and has, in the past three days, kicked her repeatedly. The woman had multiple bruises on both her legs. She was asked if she wanted medical attention. The woman declined.
As part of the investigation, a deputy spoke with the witness who confirmed the kicking incident from the day prior and completed a witness statement.
As deputies prepared to arrest the woman for the warrants, she advised there was a meth pipe among her belongings but there was no drugs. The pipe was located in a backpack.
After interviews, deputies arrested the man for domestic battery and the woman for the warrants and pipe. As deputies attempted to gather their belongings at their request, three pill bottles were found. The couple did not have prescriptions for the pills and both denied ownership. They were booked for possession of dangerous prescription drugs without a prescription. Bail for the woman $1,763 for the warrants and $1,500 for the drug offense. Bail for the man, $5,000.
