Board of Supervisors to discuss making public drinking, ’indecent conduct’ misdemeanor crimes in Carson City

At the upcoming Board of Supervisors meeting, which will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2, a discussion will be held on whether or not to make “indecent conduct” or having an open container of alcohol in public misdemeanor crimes in Carson City.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room of the Community Center.
If accepted, the first proposed new ordinance would make a person who “wantonly exposes his or her person,” “conducts himself or herself in a lewd, licentious or indecent manner,” or who urinates or defecate in public (not including public restrooms) guilty of a misdemeanor.
What is not specified, however, is a definition on what exactly is considered “indecent” in regards to this ordinance.
In addition, a discussion will also be held on whether or not to make possessing an open container of an alcoholic beverage, except in the case of a special event, illegal.
The proposed ordinance would make anyone who has an open container of an alcoholic beverage while in a public place guilty of a misdemeanor.
A public place is defined as any public street, roadway, parking lot, sidewalk, park, trail, or structure.
