NHP investigating August 6 crash that killed man, and 9-year-old on US-95 in Mineral County
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened August 6, 2021 in Mineral County where a Hawthorne man and a 9-year-old girl were killed.
NHP has identified the deceased driver as 42-year-old Joshua Hodges, a Hawthorne resident. NHP does not identify children.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2021 at approximately 12:05 p.m., NHP troopers responded to an injury crash at US-95 at Mineral County mile marker 56 in Hawthorne.
A preliminary investigation shows that a red 2018 Mazda 5 was traveling south on US-95. A black 2014 Chevrolet Impala was driving north on US-95. The Mazda entered the northbound travel lanes to pass vehicles in a passing zone, according to NHP.
The Mazda applied steering to the left in attempt to avoid the Chevrolet and the Chevrolet applied steering to the right. Both vehicles left the roadway to the east of US-95. The front of the Mazda struck the front of the Chevrolet, according to NHP.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Joshua Hodges, died at the scene. The 9-year-old female rear passenger of the Chevrolet was transported to a local area hospital and declared deceased upon arrival, according to NHP.
This crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) - NHP Case #210800362.
