Carson City deputies arrest man after finding several pounds of marijuana
A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and DUI after several pounds of marijuana was recovered during a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
John M. Wescott of Newton, Mass., was booked into custody at 10:50 a.m. According to the arrest report, deputies conducted a traffic stop after an officer observed the windows and front dash of the vehicle the man was driving had been obstructed. During the stop, the deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from an open window.
The deputy asked if there was marijuana in the vehicle. The man handed the deputy four small packages that appeared to have been purchased from dispensaries in Colorado, the arrest report states. A deputy with a canine arrived. After a brief interview, the man gave written consent to search the vehicle for drugs. He was also read his Miranda rights, the arrest report states.
Deputies located three large duffle bags that appeared to be full of marijuana packaged and supposedly purchased from dispensaries out of state, according to the arrest report. The man freely admitted to being a marijuana user and said the marijuana was for personal use. Deputies estimated the amount to be between 20 to 30 pounds, the arrest report states. At the time of this report, the exact amount was not available.
A field sobriety test was conducted, the man showed signs of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of DUI drugs, the arrest report states. He was also charged for felony possession of marijuana, for allegedly having been in possession of more than legally allowed. Bail: $6,137.
In other arrests:
— A 48-year-old man was booked into jail Thursday, 4 p.m. for a warrant for gross misdemeanor misuse of 911. The warrant was issued July 31, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,500.
— A 34-year-old Gardnerville man as arrested Thursday, 5:14 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street for a misdemeanor failure to appear in traffic court warrant issued in April 2014 out of East Fork Township Court. Bail: $656.
— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 3:44 p.m. in the area of East Long street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI drugs and failure to stop at a stop sign. Bail: $1,234.
