Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man booked for shoplifting, threatening staff with knife
A 28 year-old transient male was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:46 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street for felony assault with a deadly weapon as well as misdemeanor petit larceny, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
According to the arrest report, Gabriel Mendoza was taken into custody after store security had detained him for shoplifting and he threatened store staff with a knife.
Mendoza was observed by security to have stolen more than $200 worth of goods from the business and attempted to leave the store without paying, the report said.
Once detained by security and escorted to the loss prevention office, Mendoza then pulled a kitchen-style knife from his pocket and held it in a threatening manner toward staff, the report said.
Mendoza then reported told security staff, "You should be watching your back, because you could get hurt."
Mendoza did comply when asked to place the knife on the desk in loss prevention, the report said.
Upon making contact with the responding Sheriff's deputy, Mendoza was handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $20,000.

— A 57 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:32 p.m. in the parking lot of a casino along U.S. Highway 50 East on first offense driving under the influence (DUI) alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
According to the report, law enforcement was dispatched to the casino on report of an intoxicated subject in a parked vehicle that had its engine running.
Upon arrival, the Sheriff's deputy noted the suspect vehicle with its engine running and a subject in the driver's seat, the report said.

He admitted to the deputy that he had consumed four beers while at the casino, the report said.
The suspect complied when asked to turn off the ignition and step out of the vehicle. He had to lean against the side of the vehicle to maintain his balance, the report said.
The deputy noted red, watery eyes on the suspect, who consented to field sobriety testing (FST), which showed signs of impairment, the report said.
The suspect also consented to a preliminary breath test (PBT), which showed breath alcohol content (BAC) of .110 percent, the report said.
He was handcuffed at that point and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.
