Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Suspect arrested on warrants in Dayton murder case
The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team, in conjunction with the Tri-County Gang Unit, arrested a suspect Friday night connected with the May 7 fatal shooting of Joseph Jarratt in Dayton.
Jonathon "Johnny" Ortiz, 17, of Carson City was taken into custody Friday night at a residence in the 3400 block of Airport Road for felony murder and robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, the arrest report said.
Warrants for felony murder and robbery were sworn out May 8 for Ortiz's arrest by the Dayton Township Justice Court, along with felony violation of bail conditions (failure to obey all laws, no violence) issued by the First Judicial District Court in Carson City.
Law enforcement authorities visited the Airport Road residence Friday in an effort to locate Ortiz. At about 11 p.m. Friday night, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy observed Ortiz running through an alley near Pontius Drive. The suspect was located in a driveway near the intersection of Pontius Drive and Airport Road, the report said.
A records check through Carson City Dispatch confirmed the active bench warrants for Ortiz's arrest and he was taken into custody at that point, transported to the Carson City Jail where he was booked as a juvenile due to the felony murder charge against him, the report said. No bail hold.
Ortiz was one of multiple individuals wanted in connection to a fatal shooting that had occurred the night of May 7 in Dayton, where 34 year-old Dayton resident Jarratt was gunned down after what authorities believed had been a marijuana drug deal gone bad.
Four other 17 year-olds were arrested within days of the shooting, but Ortiz had remained at large until Friday night.
