Carson City deputies arrest man who set off fireworks in field near homes
A 25-year-old man was arrested late Sunday for misdemeanor suspicion of discharging fireworks close to homes, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The Truckee, Calif., man was arrested at 11:32 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East and admitted to being in possession of and setting off the fireworks, according to the arrest report.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Carson City sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Koontz Lane and South Edmonds Drive for a complaint of large fireworks being discharged in the fields near the water tower.
Carson City dispatch received multiple 911 calls in reference to the fireworks. A dispatcher advised while taking the complaint that fireworks could be heard in the background, the arrest report states. One of the reporting witnesses stated the fireworks were discharged behind her residence in the brush. Another reporting party was concerned the subjects were going to start a fire.
Arriving deputies were able to learn more information about a suspicious vehicle in the area and a reporting party who followed the vehicle, a Dodge Ram, to the area of East Fifth Street and Airport Road. After checking, a deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Highway 50 and North Lompa Lane.
Deputies made contact with the occupants, including the driver who stated he purchased the fireworks while on his way home to Truckee, Calif., from southern Nevada. He stated he was the person who lit the fireworks in the fields surrounded by homes.
Located in the rear of the vehicle, in plain view, was a large amount of fireworks. A female passenger retrieved all the fireworks and gave them to the officer, who seized them as evidence.
The original reporting party who followed the vehicle provided a written statement. Due to the current high potential for fires, the man was placed under arrest for possession and discharge of fireworks and taken to jail. Bail: $637.
