Carson City woman jailed on three counts child endangerment and neglect
A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday at a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on three gross misdemeanor counts of child neglect and endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The children, daughters of the woman, were found inside a unkempt motel room along with two men with long criminal histories involving assault, drugs and domestic battery. Inside the motel room apartment were beds without sheets, dirty dishes in a kitchen with rotten food on the counter, several dangerous kitchen items and chemicals within reach of the youngest child, empty beer bottles, hard alcohol within reach of the children, and an open, empty can of beans on the floor.
Two of the children were dressed but had not showered in some time, while another child’s feet and clothing were dirty and her hair had not been brushed, the arrest report states. While the officer was investigating, one of the daughters kept asking her mother for food.
One daughter said she usually sleeps on the bed with her sister, while another sister and her mom sleep on the floor. The mother told the officer without being asked or prompted that she did not leave the kids alone for that long and only went out for awhile, the arrest report states. The mother also said she was trying to stay clean.
The two oldest children, around middle school age, usually go from couch to couch, staying with friends and family, the arrest report states. Both girls have been known to stay out past curfew but have not been caught. Both girls have Facebook profiles that suggest they are experimenting with marijuana, which led their grandfather to contact Child and Family Services recently, the arrest report states.
The mother was arrested at 12:19 p.m. and faces three child neglect and endangerment charges, all gross misdemeanor offenses, and a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court, failure to appear for a July 29, 2014 hearing. Total Bail: $8,500.
