Carson City man jailed for allegedly beating girlfriend, tells deputy he caught her falling

A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 400 block of Jeanell Drive for domestic battery and two failure to appear warrants after allegedly beating his girlfriend for two days, a sheriff's deputy said.

Around 6 in the evening Tuesday, Carson City sheriff's deputies were dispatched regarding a possible domestic battery. The reporting party stated she had heard a woman and a man arguing the day before, and the next day the woman had bruising on her face, according to the arrest report.

Deputies made contact with the couple and the man stated nothing had happened. When the deputy asked him why the woman had bruising on her face, the man stated “because she hits me.”

The deputy asked again why she was bruised, and the man said it was because he stops her from hitting him, but when asked if he had any marks, he couldn’t provide any, the arrest report states.

He then said she falls down and he tries to catch her. Deputies asked for his identification, and he said it was in his room. When the deputy followed him to his room, the man became angry and cocked his fist back toward the deputy in a threatening manner, the report states. The deputy placed him in handcuffs.

The woman was observed with multiple bruises on her face and arms. She admitted the man had been hitting her repeatedly over the last two days. Dispatch advised the man had two warrants out for his arrest, one in Carson City and another in Pershing County.

During transport, the man repeatedly told the deputy he was going to kill him, and he had to be placed in a “safety cell” by jail staff. Bail: $6,377.

In other arrests:
— A Carson City man was arrested late Tuesday night in the 4000 block of Village Drive for disorderly conduct, obstructing or resisting a peace officer and violating his alternative sentencing after deputies were called to a domestic disturbance.

According to the police report, neighbors called after hearing a man yelling at his wife to open the door, and saying he was not going to leave until she opened it. He was also observed yelling at surrounding neighbors who had come outside due to the disturbance.

When deputies arrived, the man was in the roadway without a shirt on. Deputies instructed him to sit down on the curb, and he refused, yelling profanities and saying he would not sit down. He resisted being put in handcuffs, but eventually was subdued.

According to deputies, he said he had been drinking all day and he wanted to visit his wife, and he was upset because she had a “20 year old punk mother f**ker” inside the residence.

Contact was made with the wife, who confirmed they had been separated for four years and he did not live there.
Earlier in the evening, deputies had made contact with the man at a Woodside market after allegedly yelling racist comments at children. Bail: $1,650.

— A Carson City man was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance in the 3100 block of Research Way on Tuesday afternoon.

Gilbert Ramirez, 41, was arrested after a civilian reported they were following a sedan with no plates who could not maintain a lane. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Inside were three people, including Ramirez.

The driver said he did not have a valid driver’s license, he was missing teeth and appeared to be sweating very heavily, deputies said.

Ramirez was in the back seat, and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. According to deputies, he was observed to have red, watery eyes and was speaking very quickly.

A woman was in the passenger seat, and said the car belonged to her, but neither she nor the driver had proof of insurance. The temporary moving permit had also expired Tuesday. Due to the behavior of the people in the car, deputies had probable cause to think there were drugs inside the vehicle.

Beck, the K9, was dispatched, but before he could arrive Ramirez admitted that he had smoked meth a few days ago and there was going to be residue inside a pocket in his backpack.

Deputies searched the backpack and found a spoon with a sticky cotton swab stuck to it, as well as a small zip lock baggie with white residue that resembled meth. The cotton swab returned positive for methamphetamine.

The driver was cited for failing to maintain a lane, no proof of insurance and driving without a license. The car was impounded, and Ramirez was taken into custody. Bail: $2,500.

— A 42-year-old transient man was arrested in the 700 block of Silver Oak on Tuesday afternoon for felony parole violation and misdemeanor destruction of property.

Kevin Cottrell was arrested after his girlfriend called deputies stating he had battered her.

When deputies arrived, they noted that the front door of the apartment appeared to have been kicked in.

She said she and Cottrell had been arguing, and that she locked him out. They're in a dating relationship but he does not live with her, she told deputies.

According to the police report, she said he kicked in the door, then slapped her in the back of the head. Dispatch advised Cottrell had a parole and probation retake warrant. When they went to the bedroom to speak with him, they realized he had left through the bedroom window. He is being held without bail on the felony violation.

— A 59-year-old Placerville woman was arrested for contempt of court on a failure to appear warrant Tuesday evening in the 800 block of East Musser Street. Bail: $500 cash only.
