Carson City arrests: Pair jailed, stolen vehicle from Tahoe recovered
Two were arrested Tuesday for possession of a stolen vehicle and other charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report said.
Hunter Chad Smith, 19, and Ember Rose Miller, also 19, were taken into custody at 3:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 50 East.
According to the booking report, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched to assist with a traffic stop. Dispatch advised the vehicle that had been stopped was reported stolen on Thursday, July 25, out of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
The deputy advised he stopped the vehicle because he observed the driver using a cell phone while driving and that the vehicle registration was expired. During the investigation, a canine drug detection dog alerted positive on the vehicle, and a search was conducted, the report states.
Inside the woman's purse contained a glass container with suspected methamphetamine, as well as several bottles of paint and a glass methamphetamine pipe. Miller was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The male passenger, Smith, was also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. He also had confirmed warrants for contempt of court, failure to appear and violation of a suspended sentence. The warrants were issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Total bail amount listed for Smith: $16,295. Total bail amount listed for Ember Miller: $13,637.

— The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested two people Tuesday night in the area of King and Nevada streets for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and other charges.
Taken into custody were Joyce Christine Pritchart, 67, and Walter Kayler, 66. According to the arrest report, a deputy was patrolling the area and observed a Kia sedan with two occupants in a parking lot, stopped in the middle of the thoroughfare and remained there for several minutes.
The vehicle left and turned onto Nevada Street where it did not make a complete stop at a stop sign. The sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver and passenger, who both appeared to be under the influence of a stimulant, the arrest report states. Both spoke rapidly, and displayed quick head and hand movements.
The deputy collected the vehicle information and asked the woman if there were any drugs in the vehicle. She said there wasn't. While the officer was completing a records check, another deputy observed the male bend over and manipulating something on the floorboard of the vehicle.
A drug detection canine, Ivo, did an interior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. Inside the vehicle deputies located a plastic water pipe, and a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in an eyeglass case. There was a small jar of marijuana in a purse with a dispensary label, the report states.
Deputies spoke with the pair individually after reading them their Miranda warning. Both denied possession of the methamphetamine and insisted they only smoked marijuana. Both were arrested for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman also was charged with misdemeanor stop sign violation. Total bail amount listed for the woman: $3,749. Total bail amount listed for the man: $3,637.
