Theater, comedy and music this weekend in Carson City; Hot August Nights kickoff in Virginia City

A blockbuster weekend of events to fit just about every persuasion is on tap this weekend around the Carson City area as July ends and August begins. Here's what's ahead.
Join the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget for a weekend of knee-slapping competition among several regional and national standup comedians. Kabir's Comedy Challenger began Thursday and continues through Saturday. Standup appearances will be made by Amanda Arnold, Mario Dion Hodge, Luz Pazos, Sam Bam, Dennis Gaxiola, Drea Myers, Julio A Gonzalez, Vinayak Pal, Paul Conyers, Alex Ansel, Saul Trujillo, Chris Cope, Lukas Dublins Seely, Tara Brown, Adam Dominguez, Cody Smit & Greg Wilson. Shows begin at 8 p.m. each night at the Carson Nugget Loft, 507 North Carson Street in Carson City. — The Carson City Classic Cinema Club summer outdoor movie series continues this Friday, July 30 at Mills Park with the funny animal antics-filled animated story of "Zootopia." In a city of animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy. The movie features the voices of Jennifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman and Idris Elba.
The movie begins at 8:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on. Food trucks have been invited to all the summer movies. Mills Park is located at 1111 East William Street in Carson City.
— The summer Carson City Farmers Market continues this Saturday, featuring fresh produce from Nevada Certified Farmers Market growers. The Market also offers a variety of house and garden plants and numerous handmade arts and crafts. The Saturday morning market has grown to become one of Carson’s premier events for locals and tourists alike. You’ll find a direct connection to over 30 vendors per week with roots in Carson City and surrounding areas. In addition to the wide variety of produce offered, you’ll also find delicious cheeses, artisan breads and pastries, local honey, jams, preserves and ciders. The market is located in the Carson Nugget parking lot, 412 N. Stewart Street at 8:30 a.m. More information can be found here.
— Friends of the Carson City Library is hosting their first author event in over a year during their Christmas in July author event at Browsers Corner Bookstore Saturday, July 31. Author Monica Marcinko is presenting her children’s book, “I Want to be an Elf,” at the bookstore from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. while dressed as an elf and spreading early holiday cheer.
All day, children’s books will be on sale in the bookstore’s parking lot for 25 cents each or five for $1, cash only. Parents or guardians are invited to bring their kids down to Browsers Corner for a day of fun. The Carson City Friends of the Library Browsers Corner Books is located at 711 E Washington St.
— Youth Theatre Carson City will cut the rug this weekend with "Footloose: The Musical, Youth Edition" playing four performances July 30 to August 1, 2021 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

— Another youth theater group, Wild Horse Productions, will host two performances of Disney's "Alice in Wonderland, Jr." this Sunday in Carson City. Travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature’s most beloved heroines, in her madcap adventures.
The ever-curious Alice’s journey begins innocently enough as she chases the White Rabbit. Her adventures become increasingly more strange as she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game.
The production will be held at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall outdoor stage. Performances are Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Go here for more information and tickets.
— The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series returns Saturday at the Change Companies stage, beginning at 7 p.m. with the high energy sounds of Loud as Folk. This takeover concert curates an entire night of talented emerging artists in the spirit that has made Loud As Folk the hub for musicians in the West Coast songwriting scene.
Everyone is invited this free concert. Bring your own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kids activities. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets.
— Heading into its 34th year, the world’s largest classic car show returns to northern Nevada, kicking off festivities in the historic mining town of Virginia City Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31. Activities include a Show-n-Shine, live entertainment, a poker walk and more.
