Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Reno woman booked on felonies after failed shoplifting attempt
A 31 year-old Reno woman was arrested Friday afternoon at 2:07 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street on a pair of felony violations, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported, including burglary and grand larceny.
According to the arrest report, Miranda Rose Reed was taken into custody after law enforcement was dispatched to a South Carson Street business on report of shoplifting.
The responding Sheriff's deputy met with loss prevention staff at the scene. The suspect, Reed, was also present in the loss prevention office.
Loss prevention reported that Reed was observed walking around the store, picking out items and putting them in a shopping cart. She then walked out of the store past all points of sale without paying for the goods.
Reed was stopped by loss prevention staff outside of the store and she returned inside to the loss prevention office, the report said. Total value of the items in the cart was more than $1,990.
Reed agreed to speak with the deputy, the report said, stating that she attempted to steal the items in order to repay a debt she owed.
She said she had lost her job and had no money. She then took out a loan from someone and was unable to repay her debt.
Reed said the man to whom she owed the debt told her what items he wanted stolen, and if she got them for him, her debt would be repaid.
Reed was handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $20,000.
