Local nature photographer featured in August at Carson City Art Gallery
Carson City Art Gallery introduces local Carson City nature photographer Lisa Fisher as its August artist of the month.
A Northern Nevadan native, Fisher has been photographing most of her life.
"I have loved taking pictures since I was old enough to operate a camera," she said.
For many years photography had been a hobby for Fisher, something she could feel accomplished at doing while battling chronic illness.
“I learned I can do most things with compromises,” she said. “So I plowed ahead with my camera in hand.”
Fisher, a nine-year resident of the Nevada state capital, decided a few years ago to devote more time to her photography, turning it into an artistic pursuit that has netted her local, regional and even statewide recognition.
Her pictures have appeared on broadcast television as well as in print and online media.
Fisher’s work has been award-winning, too, as finalist selections in local, regional and statewide contests, including Nevada Magazine’s annual “Great Nevada Picture Hunt.”
Three galleries, including Carson City Art Gallery, have displayed Fisher’s photographs since 2016.
Fisher said flowers, wildlife and landscapes are the focus of her art, which she added is as natural as it possibly can be when framed or mounted to canvas.
Keeping the product organic is an important part of her artistic signature, Fisher said.
"I make it a priority to take photos that require very little editing," she said. "I don’t add anything to the photo."
Fisher said keeping it real for the viewer is what she hopes will set her work apart from other photographs.
"I want people to see themselves in the landscape of the photo,” she said.
Fisher's work has been on display at Carson City Art Gallery in downtown Carson City for almost a year now.
Gallery owner Robin McGregor said she is pleased to carry Fisher's framed pictures and canvases not only because of product quality, but also because Fisher is a home-grown local artist who sought a place for her photographs to shine.
"She is one of our very talented photographers," McGregor said. "We now have 51 local artists, all within the Sierra Nevada Range."
Fisher's work will be featured until Aug. 30 at Carson City Art Gallery, located at 110 South Curry Street on the corner of Second.
A reception is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Carson City Art Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information on the gallery, call (775) 313-8628 or follow it here on Facebook.
