Carson City deputies make robbery arrest, suspect said 'thank you' after demanding cash
A 29-year-old transient was arrested for allegedly robbing a Carson City convenience store early Thursday morning, a sheriff's deputy report said.
Joseph Essling-Marcuson was taken into custody at 2:07 a.m. after deputies located him near the intersection of North Saliman and Evans streets. He is alleged to have gone into the Jacksons Chevron convenience store at 1615 East Fifth Street, demanding cash and implying he had a gun.
According to the arrest report, at 2:02 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the convenience store and gas station for a report of a robbery.
Deputies were advised of his description and what the suspect was wearing, including a black zip up hoodie style sweat shirt with lettering across the chest, blue jeans and bandanna tied around his neck.
The clerk told Carson City deputies that they were walking the floor of the store when the man entered and said "cash now" and pointed to the register, the arrest report states.
The clerk stated she did not see a gun but the man held his right hand in his pocket of the sweat shirt like he was holding a gun and demonstrated the man's alleged actions to the deputy.
The suspect made off with around $50 from the cash register. The clerk said after the man had taken the money he told her "thank you" and exited out from north side doors, the report states.
Within minutes the suspect, who matched the description, was located. He was read his Miranda warning and was asked where he had come from. The man replied "nowhere" and told the deputy he did not have to provide any information, the report states.
The money, including a marked bill from the register, was located on his person, the report states. The suspect was identified by the clerk as the one who committed the robbery. Video footage of the robbery was to be obtained along with other evidence collected, the report states.
Essling-Marcuson also had a felony warrant, alleging larceny, issued July 8, 2019 out of Washoe County District Court. Bail for the robbery charge: $40,000. Bail for the Washoe County warrant: $10,000.
