NHP identifies Reno man in fatal Carson City rollover at Goni Road

Carson City residents are invited to join First Independent Bank and community organizations, the Hot August Nights Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to collect warn winter coats for Northern Nevada children who might otherwise go without.

Horse advocates in the Dayton area say there was a Bureau of Land Management roundup that happened Tuesday off of Dayton Valley Road. According to a number of people on the Facebook social media page Dayton Nevada News and Information, the roundup involves several horses the advocates say were put into pens.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigators have asked for the public’s help locating a 42-year-old local woman reported missing by her family.

A Muscle Powered hosted hike schedule for Tuesday evening along the Tahoe Rim Trail has been cancelled due to unhealthy air quality. The event will be rescheduled at a later date.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in attempting to identify a man who used a stolen credit card to obtain gift cards and merchandise at Home Depot in Carson City and in Reno.

Air quality in Carson City reached an “unhealthy” status Tuesday morning, with a 153 on the Air Quality Index. In Carson Valley, an AQI monitor in Gardnerville registered 129 placing the area in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category.

CARSON CITY — Beneath the canopy of quaking aspen groves in the high desert of Nevada can be found an outdoor art gallery and a glimpse of Basque history in the American West.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday afternoon to the area of the Goni water tower where there was a vehicle rollover with three having suffered minor injuries.

This Monday marks the two-year anniversary of Bob McFadden Plaza, a walking venue designed as a draw for families and foot traffic in the downtown Carson City area. The plaza, part of a long-term downtown redevelopment plan, replaced Third Street between North Carson and Curry streets.

More than 6,000 vehicles will call the streets of Northern Nevada home for the 32nd Annual Hot August Nights festival. The 10-day celebration commences in the historic mining town of Virginia City this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4.

It’s almost August and that means the sounds of jazz, jazz and more jazz at the various venues around Carson City, thanks to the coordination by the Mile High Jazz Band.

Ildemaro Vargas’ weekend brings new meaning to “short stop.” The shortstop’s historic year with the Reno Aces was interrupted briefly on Friday when he was promoted to the Aces’ parent club, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Vargas suited up for Saturday’s game in San Diego against the Padres, but he did not play. After the contest, Vargas was sent back down to Reno. It was his second big-league call-up.

There’s not enough superlatives to describe Marty Stuart, who will never run out of singers. Each member of Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives took turns at lead vocals during a 10-song set on Thursday at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys. Their performance preceded Chris Stapleton.
