Reports: Wild horses rounded up in Dayton area
Horse advocates in the Dayton area say there was a Bureau of Land Management roundup that happened Tuesday off of Dayton Valley Road. According to a number of people on the Facebook social media page Dayton Nevada News and Information, the roundup involves several horses the advocates say were put into pens.
Carson Now has left a message with the Bureau of Land Management Carson Ranger District to find out about the so-called roundup, if the BLM was indeed herding horses off BLM property, how many horses are involved and where the horses will go.
Jennifer Dowdle McAviney, a horse advocate, said she witnessed around 16 horses herded, put into pens and trucked away.
The reported roundup has brought out passionate debate from both sides.
On July 27, the BLM informed wild horse advocates that it would not move forward with plans to roundup wild horses in and around the Fish Springs area in Douglas County.
Originally, the BLM planned to remove the majority of wild horses in Fish Springs leaving behind 26 adult horses.
Wild horse advocates in the Dayton area say they were not notified there would be a roundup.
