Smoke and haze around Carson City from Long Valley Fire near Pyramid Lake

The hazy smoke that has wafted into the Carson City area Sunday morning is from the Long Valley Fire burning near Pyramid Lake, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Northerly winds overnight pushed smoke and haze into the Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley regions. Conditions should improve by mid Sunday afternoon as westerly winds pick up and push the smoke out of the area, according to the weather service.
The Long Valley Fire started Tuesday and is burning six miles north of Doyle, Calif in grass and sagebrush. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center as of Sunday morning it is estimated at 63,046 acres with 24 percent containment. It has burned into the north end of Spanish Springs Valley and is heading toward Pyramid Lake.
The fire was active throughout the night, extending to southeast to Moonrocks Road and Winnemucca Ranch Road and is traveling east toward Pyramid Lake. The fire is currently on Tule Ridge in the Dogskin Mountains, according to Sierra Front.
Crews have been working hard to keep the fire north of the Rancho Haven community. The Ortiz Camp was impacted by the fire but no structures were lost due to the hard work of fire personnel. There is an Advisory Evacuation Order for Sutcliffe, the Grass Valley area of Palomino Valley and east on Winnemucca Ranch Road.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of western Nevada including Carson City. The Red Flag Warning means gusty winds and low humidity for the region, increasing the fire danger. The Warning is for Monday from noon to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m.
